Not the most traditional Jersey diner, but one of the most iconic! Tops Diner serves gigantic portions of hyper-elevated comfort food from a seemingly-infinite menu of breakfast classics, oversized sandwiches, loaded pastas, juicy steaks, and decadent seafood. And there's a full Chinese cuisine menu too, just because they can. My go-to picks are the cheesesteak egg rolls and the lobster mac & cheese! If it's your first time in Jersey diner, be sure to start with the disco fries and a milkshake!
White Mana is a historic Jersey landmark, and might actually be one of the earliest burger restaurants in the world! The original concept was built in for the New York World's Fair in 1939 as the "diner of the future" and has been serving sliders ever since. It is a no-frills restaurant where everyone sits around a retro bar counter in front of a circular grill. $2 a burger, cash only. Doesn't get much better than that.
Sometimes you don't need to eat fancy. Sometimes you just want to sit down and put away an entire cheese tonkatsu meal while Pororo plays on the TV. BUNSIKNARA is a cozy spot serving Korean comfort food at an affordable price! The menu holds a treasure trove of Korean classics as good as homemade, blitzing out of the kitchen and into your belly. Also it's like a block a way from one of my favorite PC cafés and like for $20 you can crush 2 kimbap rolls AND play League for 6 hours. That's value!!!
For $365 and 3 hours of your time, 3rd-generation sushi chef Kunihide “Nakaji” Nakajima will capture your heart and taste buds with the preservation of Edomeaezushi. There's not much that words can do justice for a night spent here. As with many omakase restaurants, the chef takes you on a journey as they tell their story. But even as a seasoned veteran of such raw dining experiences, Nakaji's is certainly my favorite.
Land & Sea is one of the few 24-hour Jersey diners that survived the pandemic, which makes it legendary in itself. What's even more impressive is that it's tucked into a corner of suburbia where everything usually closes by 10PM anyway. But whether your definition of a late-night trip is at midnight or 4AM, they will always have something for you. Pizza, sandwiches, pasta, seafood, and all-day breakfast, this is an establishment that truly embodies the meaning of 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
